5 Reasons to Choose a Golden Retriever as Your Next Companion

Let’s dig into some of our reasons why we think they have had such a huge impact on people around the world, and why you may want to consider a Golden Retriever puppy as your next companion.

1.) The are incredibly lovable! While many breeds are lovable pets, Goldens Retrievers take it to a whole new level. They have love in spades and enough to share! It’s probably why they were featured in the movie “UP” saying “ I have just met you and I Love you!”.

When they gaze at you it seems like their whole body is just waiting for your love. And the happiness reflected on their faces when you pet them or play with them is equal to none!

2. )They are so easily trainable. Goldens are dogs that are usually very food or toy motivated (or both) and that make them incredibly easy to train.

They are also very forgiving when being trained. You can mess up a lot and still manage to teach them what you want at the end of the day. This makes them perfect pets for the first time pet parent!

They are dogs that are easy to be trained as puppies but are also easy to be trained as adults. Though adults may need a tad more patience then their puppy counterparts, they are happy to learn new things as long as it means they are with you!

This makes them fun to work with as you may gain interest in trying new skills throughout their life. From fetch to dock diving and many other wonderful sports and events you can try them out on a whim regardless of your Goldens age so long as they are healthy enough to peruse it.

3.) They are amazing athletes in their own right! Golden retrievers were bred in Scotland to be hunting dogs. This gives them good problem solving skills and intelligence to figure things out. Once they understand the task they are off and running (sometimes literally).

Thanks to that intelligence and athleticism they have shown a wonderful ability to adapt to many different fields from the show ring to the military. Yup! Even the Navy had a Golden Retriever detection dog (his name was Bud). This also makes them wonderful service dogs and as well as dogs that excel in Search and Rescue due to their less threatening nature and joyfulness in working.

But don’t despair or feel less then if you are looking for “just” a companion. They are happy to be with you but you may have to throw that toy a time or two more!

4.) They are outstanding family dogs and are great with children. Their lovable and gentle nature make them natural side kicks to many kids adventures. Though the puppies may be a bit mouthy, especially when teething and may forget their size on occasion. An adult Golden Retriever are some of the sweetest dogs we’ve known when it comes to kids.

They become fiercely loyal to their family and it’s absolutely impossible to have a bad day when their tails are wagging and they are looking at you with such hopeful looks on their faces. (We may be a tad bit biased here though)

5.) For Colorado especially, Goldens make wonderful hiking and outdoor companions. Goldens aren’t afraid of getting wet, playing in the snow or out walking on a warm sunny day. You can easily get them to swim, climb and explore right along side you. And if you have horses, ours are happy to be out with them and have good sense to stay out from under their hooves. They make the best pals out on any adventure you can dream up!

These are just a few of the reasons we love and breed Golden Retrievers and we hope it gets you to think about adding one of these beautiful dogs to your family.

Until next time, Happy Tails!
